It sent her into depression and self-doubt. She lost her self-confidence. She blamed it on herself. And she was ashamed of her reactions.
What was wrong with me for getting into such an intense friendship? What was wrong with me that it ended? This book is the journey of what it feels like to lose a best friend. The author of this book is a psychologist. She therefore has the tools to do deep self-reflection.
She has the tools to draw from her own experiences and bring to awareness how difficult this experience is, but also how much we can learn from it. She takes us on her adventure to self-discovery.
Friendships can bring us so much joy and so much pain. By talking about the pain and her path to recovery, the author brings forth the universal: friendships breakups are extremely painful, and normal, and by talking about them, we can heal.
I found the words in this book so compassionate and candid that it made me wish there were more books like this. She describes her pain of being dumped by her best friend in a way that made me relate. She describes pain, insecurities, negativity and frustration in a way that is truly endearing. Her honesty is admirable. I am grateful for the way she shared her loss with me and I by feeling her pain I became more open to my negative emotions. We live in a culture in which shutting down our negative feelings is a must.
Why do we have to pretend to be "great" all the time? It's refreshing to see that the gamut of feelings she goes through is the same as if I was listening to my inner self. That makes me feel nurtured and more human. It's easy to love Sharon after meeting with her soul in this book.
The main character is an extremely needy person trying to stuff people into a hole inside her own life. When her friendship starts to smother the others in her life they back off and cannot handle the obsessive needs of her friend and knows friendship will not fill the need she gives up the friendship.
Then the main character laments the fact the friend has dumped her and puts all of the faults on the defective friend never looking at the fact it is the own cavernous needs that brought her friend to the point she has to back off. One person found this helpful. Truly one of the worst books I've ever read. Livingston prattles endlessly about the most inane subjects that no one, short of her own inner child who I believe actually wrote this , would find at all engaging.
We get to hear about her sad youth, her organic shampoo, her interviews with people who love "kitties", her coach for this and her coach for that, her penchant for organic food, her imaginary conversations with vampires and cowboys, her high jacking to Cuba, her favorite vegan restaurant where they serve "cheese sauce" that isn't really made of cheese, her love of kale, her observations on her dog's defecation habits, her aches and pains, her tooth infection twice , her encounters with psychics and how a spirit moved through her to advise the medium she had sought for counsel, her hubby, her puppies, her bouncy chair ball, the time she got lice in a boutique hotel, her hypersensitivity to sound or light or mood rings or whatever she has discovered about herself that could not possibly matter to anyone.
I assume she is offering advice to the reader, somewhere, in all that detritus. Quite lost. There is little connection between chapters and few segues from one thought to the next. If you have any respect for words, which Dr. Livingston assures us she does not, then you will also be annoyed at the constant use of the elongated vowel construct, used by teenagers everywhere to indicate emphasis.
Common words that do pretty well on their own, such as "love" and "oh" and "oops" become, "looooooove" and "ohhhhhhh" and "ooooops". She used the pseudo word "soooooooo" so many times, that I was tempted to count them, but thought better of it, as that would have bordered on OCD behavior, which I don't normally have.
You can see where this book probably did me more harm that good. The only reason I can see to recommend this book is for it's girth. Good door stop material. An honest, insightful almost painfully so book examining the author's relationship with her parents as she works through the loss of a girlfriend and discovers that no relationship is perfect.
Livingston takes us through every painful thought she had, sometimes in a stream of consciousness manner, as she tries to make peace with herself. There were many things I could identify with in this book. It is definitely in the self-help genre and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a new-age type of analysis of the mind. It was cathartic to know that I'm not the only intense girl around! I found some of the writing very rambling and self-indulgent, but I forgive her, because that's what I'd be like too! Not for everyone probably, but she hit the nail on the head for me and left lots to reflect on Thank you for your feedback.

The Girlfriend I Almost Lost. Lon R. This action-adventure, love story begins in Fells Point, Maryland with Jimmy rescuing a woman from being raped by three men. Who exactly was being made fun of? That was Season 1. It was behavior straight out of a romantic comedy but warped enough to hint at something more extreme. Rebecca was warm and clever.
SpiritPath is Pat's first novel. A California transplant, she now lives in the Rogue River area of Southern Oregon where she writes with her Golden Retriever wrapped around her feet and her cat competing for the keyboard. Pat Patterson. When Arizona ranch owner, Adam Blake, falls in love with Priscilla WhiteCloud, sister of his Navajo foreman, the catalyst for the terrible consequences of their union is set in motion. Amid the historical and political background of the American Southwest in the early to mid's, SpiritPath paints a fascinating picture of the world of that time, encompassing events leading to World War1, the pursuit of the Mexican bandit, Pancho Villa, after his murderous raids on American soil, the horrendous conditions of the Mission directed Indian schools, the fledgling aeronautics industry, the Stock Market Crash, coinciding with the Government mandated Stock Reduction Plan, so devastating to the herding culture of the Navajo People. Compelling love stories, interwoven with diverse yet profound values, both Anglo and Navajo, evolve as the children and grandchildren of Adam and Priscilla, seek resolutions to their personal conflicts and discover their individual paths to enduring love and spiritual harmony.
